While not a film production professor, I often build creative assignments and activities into my history and theory courses to facilitate a range of close engagements with course materials. Below are six student films from my spring 2024 US Film History course. Students were prompted to make a film in the mode of Kenneth Anger, Stan Brakhage or Maya Deren, inspired in part by writing of one or more of the filmmakers, but taking their own lives as material and using the production tools they readily had at hand.
